6/13/24 Jamaica Neighborhood Plan Town Hall
Jamaica Town Hall
Thursday, June 13, 2024
7pm - 9pm, VirtualThis town hall focused on land use strategies. We shared an updated draft zoning framework that describes where changes to the zoning will allow for the development of new housing and jobs. We also provide updates on the process to develop strategies to support investment in infrastructure, programs and services to support the neighborhood.

Zoning Deep Dives
In June, we offered a series of sessions focused on specific topics from the zoning framework. The goal of the Deep Dives is to provide a more detailed overview of what the neighborhood's zoning allows for today and what it could allow for in the future as a result of the proposed zoning changes. The second round of Working Group Meetings was held by the Department of City Planning to update community members on feedback that was received, and to hear ideas for improvements that could be made through the Jamaica Neighborhood Plan. The topics discussed in the November 28 meeting were: Transportation & Connectivity; Public Safety & Health; and Open Space & Public Realm.Community members participate in workshop activities.
After a brief introductory presentation, the attendants broke into groups based on topic and reviewed a summary of all feedback that had been received up to that point. They then completed several engagement activities within each topic group. Attendants first completed the “Three Why” activity to understand the root causes of issues in Jamaica; and then shared their Ideas and Strategies for improvements in Jamaica, and adopted a “persona” to think about Ideas and Strategies from a different perspective
